Elegance in Geometry
29”x29”x29” Laser cut cardboard, hot glue, duck tape, aluminum wire
This hanging, sculptural lamp was made in two days at the University of Cincinnati’s summer camp for Industrial Design. The prompt for this project was to simply “design a lamp.” I worked to design a form that wasn’t specifically functional, but rather, experimental. I planned to construct a form that would conflict the eye but feel satisfying to observe. The sharp points on this great stellated dodecahedron conflict with the fluid pattern on its faces. I also aimed to play with how light and shadow would play into the image of this form.
